Do Wholesome Values Still Matter? Not to Disney.

Are wholesome values no longer relevant? Is a loving marriage between a man and woman still the best environment for children, or is that an outdated concept? Are children raised in homes where parents are same-sex, trans, or polyamorous just as good and maybe even better than those who grow up in traditional homes?

Are wholesome values no longer relevant? Is a loving marriage between a man and woman still the best environment for children, or is that an outdated concept? Are children raised in homes where parents are same-sex, trans, or polyamorous just as good and maybe even better than those who grow up in traditional homes?

There are many who would like us to believe that’s the case. They would like us to believe that a home that values God’s word is actually a worse place for a child to grow up. We can see this in California’s AB 957 bill, which would discriminate against adoptive parents who don’t believe children should take life-altering drugs or permanently mutilate their bodies.

We can also see that in Disney’s attack on the HB 1557 Florida bill. A bill that prohibits sexual education in schools before the fourth grade, which Disney said, “should never have passed and should never have been signed into law.” But the real problem isn’t with companies like Disney’s press releases. It’s in their content.

Every year, Disney continues to push content that glorifies same-sex relationships and a self-serving woke agenda. Most recently, Disney has been under fire for their live-action remake of Snow White where they reimagined the seven dwarfs as “magical creatures” of all sizes and genders. The film has introduced other “modern updates,” one of which includes the decision to not have Prince Charming rescue Snow White. Instead, it emphasizes her journey towards pursuing her leadership aspirations. While this may sound like it is in good intentions, Disney has a calculated intention to remove the mention and glorification of traditional male and female relationships, which is moving culture away from Christianity.

David Hand, the son of one of the directors of the original "Snow White" film criticized the upcoming remake as disrespectful and too politically correct. "There’s no respect for what Disney did and what my dad did… I think Walt and he would be turning in their graves."

The new approach Disney is taking, which David Hand said was "woke," would have disappointed both Hand’s father, and Walt Disney, Hand said in the interview. "It’s a whole different concept and I just totally disagree with it, and I know my dad and Walt would also very much disagree with it," Hand said. "I’m afraid of what they’re going to do with the early films… their thoughts are just so radical now."

Movie after movie (Buzz Light Year, Strange World, Elemental, etc.), Disney increasingly pushes radical doctrines and sexual ideology on innocent children. Why do they do this?

Ultimately, for one very simple reason. We all want to leave a legacy. But while the legacy most Christians pursue is to serve God and others, the legacy the CEOs of companies like Disney pursue is to serve whatever is popular.

It’s all worth it as long as they are on “the right side of history.” It’s not about what’s actually best for others but how they are perceived by our culture.

We wish we could say Disney was alone in this mindset, but they are not. One only has to look to Nickelodeon, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, PBS, and Scholastic, just to name a few.

Every year, more and more inappropriate sexual content is pushed on children through these entertainment and educational sources. To be honest, it can be overwhelming. When it’s everywhere. How do we, as parents, fight against it?

Are we bound to Disney, Nickelodeon, PBS, Scholastic and the other woke children’s entertainment companies’ whims? Do we have any choice with what our kids take in? Maybe we don’t, but then again, maybe we do.

These children’s companies hate to lose money, and while their leadership has allowed woke ideology to take precedence over profits, that business model can’t sustain itself forever. If we keep voting with our dollars, we will make a significant impact on the kind of content that they release.

Yet, what about today? Where do we go for the content we crave for our children when the big companies won’t provide it?

How do we instill those timeless values into our children that Disney and the others no longer produce? There is hope. New companies like BRAVE Books are stepping in to fill that gap. We started BRAVE Books because we are parents just like you who care about their kids. There’s probably no better reason for why we do what we do.
