The Flight of Richard Bong
Forty confirmed kills over the Pacific, more than any American pilot before or since. He flew a P-38 with his girlfriend Marge's face painted on the nose, and received the Medal of Honor in December 1944.
Our kids are forgetting where we came from because history books are boring. We’re protecting the legacies of heroes and getting kids excited about American history.

Geopolitics and treaty dates. Not one first-person story that makes a kid sit up. Why would they be interested in history at all?
They have screens for video games, tv shows, and movies. If there’s no action inside a book, they won’t pick it up.
We partnered with Nic Flood to bring real stories from WWII to life, with an important catch; keep the action, but leave out the dark stuff. These books are content- and language-appropriate for young eyes and ears.

The only world Cash and Cutter Bridger have ever known is one where the Axis Powers prevailed, and America is ruled by a repressive regime. That is, until their father leaves them a time-traveling tape player and 10 tapes - each transporting them into the stories of the 10 heroes that the enemy erased to turn the tide of history.
Their mission: travel back, witness what really happened, and restore these heroes before they’re lost forever. Ace fighter pilots. Tank commanders. Soldiers who did the impossible. Every tape pulls the boys deeper into battles and moments that were supposed to be forgotten, and every hero they bring back weakens the enemy’s grip on the present.
But with a shadowy network of both allies and enemies closing in, Cash and Cutter will have to be as brave as the heroes on the tapes, because the closer they get to finishing the mission, the more dangerous it becomes…

The premise
Ninety-five percent of these books is true history about real American heroes. The other five percent is the twist: in this timeline the Germans went back and took ten of them off the board before they could matter.
Two kids have to learn everything about those men — really learn it — to go back and put them where they belong.
Forty confirmed kills over the Pacific, more than any American pilot before or since. He flew a P-38 with his girlfriend Marge's face painted on the nose, and received the Medal of Honor in December 1944.
He cut the glass nose off B-25 bombers and packed the space with .50 caliber machine guns, turning level bombers into strafers. Those planes destroyed a Japanese troop convoy in the Bismarck Sea while his wife and four children were held in an internment camp in the Philippines.
The highest confirmed tank-kill count of any American tanker, run up in eighty-one days of combat in a Sherman he named In the Mood. He lost a leg near Aachen in December 1944, in the third tank shot out from under him.
He won five Olympic gold medals for shooting in 1920, then took two battleships into a night action off Guadalcanal in November 1942. His gunners wrecked the Kirishima in about seven minutes, and the Japanese scuttled it the next morning.
He commanded the 1st Infantry Division through North Africa and Sicily and was relieved of it anyway. He was handed the untested 104th Division, trained it to fight at night, and took it across Germany.
A regiment of Japanese American soldiers, many of them with families held in American internment camps, and the most decorated unit of its size in Army history. In the Vosges in October 1944 it took more than 800 casualties to reach 211 surrounded Texans.
Cut off in the Argonne Forest without food and taking shellfire from their own artillery, the men of the 77th Division ignored a written German demand to surrender. Of the 554 who went in, 194 walked out.
An American who ran resistance networks in occupied France on a wooden leg she called Cuthbert. The Gestapo hunted her as the limping lady; she escaped over the Pyrenees on foot in the winter of 1942 and went back in 1944.
Eighteen men of a reconnaissance platoon dug in on a ridge at Lanzerath on the first morning of the Battle of the Bulge and held off a German paratrooper battalion until dark. All of them were captured, and the platoon was not decorated until 1981.
At Holtzwihr in January 1945 he climbed onto a burning tank destroyer alone and worked its machine gun against advancing German infantry while calling artillery down close to his own position. He was nineteen, and finished the war as the most decorated American soldier of it.
