Back to school is upon us! As we prepare school supplies and pull out lunch boxes and backpacks, we also want to be mindful of our spiritual preparation — praying for our kids.
We want our children to grow not only academically, but also in wisdom and character as they embark on this new school year. As they experience new things and make friends, we hope they will stand strong and find their identity in Christ.
This season of our kids’ lives is where they form their understanding of the world and their sense of identity. We want them to be grounded in their faith and know God’s love for them. They are the next generation of Christians who will be called to stand for Jesus wherever they are.
Here are some ideas of topics and Bible verses to pray over your kids:
1. Wisdom in time management as your children do schoolwork and go about the rest of their day. “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15-16
2. Joy of the Lord to be your children’s strength as they work on schoolwork and projects. “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Philippians 4:4
3. Obedience to your authority as well as others such as teachers. “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.” Colossians 3:20
4. Strength of character in situations when your child faces peer pressure. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2
